Professional Dialogue and Reflection

Overview and Learning Objectives

[Practitioners] frame the problem of the situation, they determine the features to which they will attend, the order they will attempt to impose on the situation, the directions in which they will try to change it. In this process, they identify both the ends to be sought and the means to be employed.

Aim

In Unit 3, the focus is on reflective practice and professional dialogue.

Tasks

Student Teachers

You will be introduced to a model for reflection that deals with the questions: What? So What? and Now What? 

Apart from that, you will define a research question and engage in a professional dialogue with your mentors and peers to find possible solutions to it. The key value of the exercise is to start looking at the classroom through the lens of inquiry and reflection using the expertise of your colleagues and mentors.

Task 4: Portfolio Entry (45 min)

Task 5: Sharing your final ePortfolio (30 min)

Academic & School Mentors

Student teachers will be introduced to a model for reflection that focuses on the questions What? So What? and Now What?

They will define a research question and run through the process of action-oriented reflection with your support.

The main objective of this exercise for students is to start looking at the classroom through the lens of inquiry, and reflect on their teaching practice, using your experiences and expertise.
