For Academic and School Mentors

The final output of the course for the student teachers is the story of their development through the process of action-oriented reflection as well as their action plan (action-oriented expectations): how they can try to improve their teaching practice and what they want to try out during the in-school placement. In this task, they are expected to use their reflections on conversations with you and their peers, on their expectations and previous training.

The students make an entry in their ePortfolio in the Section "Reflections", Phase Preparation, covering the following aspects:

  • their research question
  • reasons why they chose this question (drawing on their values in education, expectations and/or previous training)
  • what they already knew about it
  • what they learned about the topic from their mentors
  • what they learned about the topic from their peers
  • what actions they can take to improve this area of their teaching/ what they are going to try out during their in-school placement.

You are encouraged to provide students with feedback and if needed ask further questions that will stimulate their reflection by leaving comments to their posts.

Your students will also upload and share all their ePortfolio entries in one .pdf file with you via the Documents Tool. If you decide to use the student teachers’ ‘action-oriented reflections’ for assessment purposes, you will find possible criteria below. You can also assess students' ePortfolios or seperate ePortfolio entries. Watch a video how to Assess ePortfolio
